The Mauritian Currency
The Mauritian Rupee is divided into 100 cents and bank notes are available in denominations of
25, 50, 100, 200, 500 1,000 and 2,000 Rupees.
Coins are available in 5 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, one rupee, 5 rupees and 10 rupees.
Travellers' Cheques and foreign currencies can be changed at bank counters and official money changers. Credit cards such as American Express, Visa and Mastercard are accepted by most hotels, restaurants, shops, etc...

While English is the official language, other languages are spoken here in Mauritius and these include French, Creole (a local dialect derived from English and French), Mandarin, Hindi and Bhojpuri (a dialect derived from Hindi), etc...
